Among the many genres of movies, one is the motivational kind. The ones that leave you with an urge to appreciate life or do something to make it even better. We are not here to revolutionise the way you think by causing you to stream these movies but inspire you to become better versions of yourself. With some success stories and a few fictional accounts, here are some movie recommendations for you:
1. The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind - IMDb rating: 7.6/10
This is a true story of an 13 years old African boy who is fascinated by the theories in his science book. William Kamkuamb was born in the country of Malawi. Despite lack of funds to study and his father’s resistance towards education, he manages to learn and experiment in his own little ways. At the age of 14, when his village is stuck by a terrible drought, he decides to save his native from starvation by building a wind generator.
2. English Vinglish - IMDb rating: 7.8/10
A compelling tale of a housewife, an entrepreneur at heart. Shashi, a wife, a mother, sister, is perfect at fulfilling her duties. But her lack of fluency in English subjects her to repetitive and light humiliation by her husband and children. While preparing and arranging for her niece’s wedding in the US, she decides to learn english in a foreign land.
3. Ustad Hotel- IMDb rating: 8.2/10
In the pursuit of becoming a professional chef in the UK, Faizi finds himself stuck with circumstances that crush his dream. In the turn of events, he gets reunited with his grandfather who runs a small restaurant in Kozhikode. His passion blends with humanity, care and affection and eventually makes a huge difference.
4. I Am Kalam- IMDb rating: 8.0/10
Set in the town of Bikaner in Rajasthan, this is a story of a poor boy named Chhotu who familiarises himself to the achievements and hardships of erstwhile president APJ Abdul Kalam. Aims to make it big, despite his adversities, he begins to address himself as ‘Kalam’.A firm believer of karmas rather than destiny, how Chhotu makes his aspirations come true is an interesting watch.
5. The Blind Side- IMDb rating: 7.6/10
Based on the book The Blind Side: Evolution of a Game by Michael Lewis which documents the odds-defying true life journey of football star Michael Oher. In spite of leading a traumatic childhood subjected to poverty and parental neglect, a white family comes to the rescue. The Touhys uplifting Michael’s life by helping him fulfil and realize his true potential is what this movie is all about.
